Holiday Beauty: Halloween

 

 

 

In all honestly, this one actually turned out better than I thought it would. I wanted the curls to be a lot tighter so I think I will redo it that way and then try to brush it so it's puffy and dramatic. My teacher recommended trying to make the hair stick out in some way. I'll playing around with that idea but I'm not sure if I'll incorporate it into the new photo or not...

Constellations

 

The Archer

When I was younger my mom bought me a constellation book. At the time it was one of my favorite books because the stars that made up the constellations were like stickers where you could peel the cover off but the sticky park was on the book. It came with these different colored glitter packets that you could then put on the stars. It was really a neat book. Anyway, the inspiration for this came from that. I have three of these photos done I just have to edit the other photos, so those will be up soon.

 

 

You've probably noticed that a lot of the photos I've posted lately are in circles or ovals. The reason for that is that I'm experimenting with using different shapes to present my photos and lately I've felt that the circles and ovals were what were appropriate for that photo. Such as with this one, I chose a circle since that is usually the shape of the constellation maps I've seen. 



Epcot

 

Another new series that I plan on adding too! This one is about places people have traveled and I wanted to project aerial views of the city/place on the traveler. So above is my brother with Epcot projected on him since we were at Disney World last month.



Holiday Beauty: Christmas

 

New series! I plan on buying and making pieces to place in hair with a common meaning. I'm starting with the holidays, the photo above is Christmas.

Morphing

 

 I created this during pre-college over the summer. I figured I'd post it since I had to combine all the photos into one file for my portfolio. The idea behind this was to morph one person into another.



Update

 

 

I've been juggling multiple photo shoots this month and that's why I haven't posted much. I have a few pictures for about 3 or 4 different series but most of the photos aren't edited and I wanted to wait until I had more completed to post them.

So the photo above is a preview of one of the photo shoots I've been working on.

It spread like a disease.

Slowly taking over, slowly consuming everything its path.

 

 

 This series is going to be part of a larger series I plan on doing where emotions are portrayed with paint. For this set of photos I used black to represent sorrow. I chose black because it's a dark, dramatic color that also has an emptiness to it. I painted it as such to demonstrate how it spreads and can slowly consume someone. The connection I made to this was the sense of becoming numb after something felt like it destroyed me. But I want viewers to connect their own experiences to it and say 'oh, I've felt that way before'. I might re shoot this since it was brought to my attention more dramatic lighting would help as well as painting my face from top to bottom.

 

 

 

 

 

Portraits Contact Sheet

 

When I entered photographs for Young Arts I had to make a contact page. I figured I'd share it since some of the portraits on here were taken before I made my blog. So here's some of my previous work mixed with what I've just finished.



Untitled

While in Disney I saw some really interesting plants and that's what sparked this set of photos. It started with the first photo while in Animal Kingdom and the rest are posted in the order they were taken. It was nice taking a break from portraits to take photos like these while on vacation.

Lanterns

 

 

 

 

 

Well, I'm currently on vacation in Disney World and the photos above were all taken in Magic Kingdom. Since I am on vacation none of these were edited, so more will be added once I can edit and fix a few things on them. Anyway, while wondering around certain attractions these lanterns really caught my eye. I love lanterns and the fact I could find so many in different shapes and colors really made me happy. I also figured just because I'm on vacation doesn't mean I can't try to get some photography done.

 

 



Day of the Dead

In honor of Halloween I did a portrait shoot of day of the dead make up. The designs for which come from sugar skulls.

Halloween is my favorite time of year so expect to see a few more photo shoots for it real soon.

During pre-college I was given the prompt 'Something Old, Something Used' for a photo. Well I chose the first photo where I combined two photos of an old truck I found in my family's barn. But I never showed anyone the other photos that I took that night. So, here they are.



There's Beauty in Death

 

I realize this isn't the most exciting photo, but I think it's really beautiful. Death can be a beautiful thing and a tragic thing.



Elements: Air

 

 

 

 

For my AP Studio art class I chose to do a beauty photo shoot centered around the elements. I shot three of the elements this weekend but so far I've only edited the Air photos. The photo above was my favorite from the shoot. I do plan on redoing all of the photos to try to incorporate the elements more, but I still really loved this photo and wanted to share.
