2012 Summer Olympics Host City

I will be posting more of these photos representing other countries in the oncoming days. I started this project during the Olympics and planned on posting these on the last day but this project took longer than I originally thought it would. The idea for this came from an advertisement for a 'biggest fan' contest. The ad had photos of sports fans with their faces painted with their team's colors and other team merchandise. I decided I wanted to do something similar but with patriotism for one's country. The Olympics gave me this opportunity on a grand scale. However, there was no way I would be able to represent each country. Painting each flag took over an hour for most and even though it's summer, I never really had time to sit down and get multiple of these done each day. I shifted my focus to the host cities and a few others who were in the top 25 for most gold metals earned. So here is the first portion involving the most recent host cities.
Also the last photo was taken by my sister, since I'm the model and I fail at using timers.  I also haven't purchased a remote yet.

Newspaper Dresses

For my final series for MIAD pre-college last month, I did a series of newspaper dresses. These were my three favorite shots, one of each of my models. The inspiration for this came from multiple sources. Originally I was considering a contest where you would create dresses out of duct tape for prom. However, I ran out of time and that really wasn't for me. Then I was given the opportunity to do Visioneers.  The overall theme was basically 'Less is More'. So I decided to do fashion shots since I want to become a fashion photographer. The idea was less waste, more recycling. Less expense on materialistic items, more expense on creativity and experiences. I also wanted to get across how many more uses there are in everyday items. However, I failed to complete any operational dresses in time. The project was moved to a summer project of mine. Yet that didn't work out either due to my busy schedule. When it came to pre-college we were told to take risks with our work. After failing at all other attempts, I took a leap of faith and it worked. All of these dresses were created using only newspaper and tape. I plan on expanding this series and eventually making it into a book titled 'Recycle Me'.
Hello!

I'm Kelly Cassel, an aspiring fashion photographer from Wisconsin. However, I don't want to limit myself to just fashion, so anyone viewing this blog will see a variety of photography.
My goal is to get as much experience with photography as I can and I'd appreciate feedback whenever possible. Creative criticism can only help someone.
